"Very simple and refined, that's how I'd like to be remembered."[1]-Bree Campbell

Breanne Campbell-Bailey (known as Bree Campbell) was a love interest of Conner and one of his classmates.

Bree was a teenager from the Otherworld. She shared Ms. York’s 7th grade English class with Conner Jonathan Bailey. She was Conner's first crush, and Conner acted like he had sodium allergies when he started blushing. Bree was highly suspicious when Conner acted like that around her, knowing he had a crush on her. Later, Bree developed a crush on him as well, and agreed to be Conner's girlfriend. She took part in a school trip to Germany with Conner and ended up joining him on his adventure to save the Land of Stories. She later went on a trip to find out about her heritage and her ancestors to see if she had magic in her blood. It was revealed that she was a descendant of the Brothers Grimm who had magic in their blood from when Mother Goose gave them some of her blood.

When she grew up, she became a senator for the United States, published at least 5 books and also became the wife of Conner Bailey. They had three children: Elizabeth, Matthew and Carrie Bailey. She later succumbed due to unknown causes.

Biography[]

Traversing Europe and the Fairytale World[]

Bree overheard Conner talk to Mother Goose via their magical communication mirror and offered to join him to help save the Land of Stories. She helped Conner retrieve the panpipe in Neuschwanstein he needed to open the portal. She was sucked into the portal along with Conner and Emmerich. Conner sent her and Emmerich along with the Royals on the hidden path to keep them safe. After the battle, Bree returned to her own world, but not before confessing to Conner that she had a crush on him.

Mother Goose later told Conner that the only way Bree could have gotten through the portal in less than 200 years was if she had some kind of magic in her blood and that she may be a descendant of Wilhelm Grimm, possibly a nod at the fact that she loved writing short stories.[2] This is confirmed in when she meets her relatives in Connecticut, Conner didn't find out until later.

Discovering Her Heritage[]

Bree had developed a theory that she and Emmerich must have magical blood and may be descendants of Wilhelm Grimm. She found a stack of letters between her grandmother and a woman called Cornelia Grimm, who was supposed to be her grandmother's cousin, and this fact strengthened her suspicions. She decided to go on a journey in search of her heritage but wasn't sure how. A talk with Lady Iris gave her a plan and a way to travel to Connecticut. She found out that her theory was correct, and she got to know more about the Sisters Grimm, a society of women who monitored the portals between their world and the Land of Stories. They had ways of predicting when and where the next portal would open, and they informed her a large portal would be opening soon in New York City, lasting an hour or so.

Investigating Emmerich's Kidnapping[]

Bree's short story

When Bree found out that Emmerich had been kidnapped, she and the Sisters Grimm went to Germany to search for clues about Emmerich's disappearance. There, they met the Masked Man and he forced Bree to reveal the twins' whereabouts. Later, she discovered that Emmerich was the Masked Man's son and that the Masked Man was after Emmerich's magical blood. She met up with Conner and as they tried to save Emmerich, they accidentally traveled into one of Bree's short stories, "Cemetery of the Undead". They rescued Emmerich and the Masked Man is killed by Bo Peep inside Bree's story, which is also where Goldilocks gave birth.

The Battle of New York[]

When Alex mysteriously vanished, Bree and the others brainstormed about what might have happened to Alex. She joined Conner, Queen Red Riding Hood, Goldilocks, Jack, and Hero on a trip to New York to find Alex. On the plane to New York, Bree told Conner about her ancestry, the Sisters Grimm, and the bridge that would link the two worlds. She helped the gang get out of sticky situations using her intelligence, as demonstrated when she built a bomb to blast open a trapdoor. She also helped defeat the witches' gingerbread army. In the end, she promised to be Conner's girlfriend when she finally got out of being grounded.

Bree eventually became Conner's girlfriend and subsequently married him, they had 3 children and lived a long and happy life, it was eventually revealed that Bree died of old age after many years of marriage to Conner.

Physical Appearance[]

She had blonde hair with a streak of pink and blue in her bangs. She usually wore bracelets and wristbands by the dozen, always wore a purple beanie, and had an earbud plugged into one ear whenever she could.

Bree is a pretty girl with fair skin, long pale blonde hair in two long strands that fall to her shoulders dyed pink and blue, and large brown eyes.Usually, she wore dozens of bracelets and wristbands, she always wore a purple beanie, she wears an aquamarine blue shirt, jeans, and purple sneakers.

Personality[]

"Bree was unlike any girl Conner had ever met. She was always very calm and cool, never raised her voice for anything, and never seemed to let anyone or anything affect her in any way. She had blonde hair with a streak of pink and blue in her bangs. She usually wore bracelets and wristbands by the dozen, always wore a purple beanie, and had an earbud plugged into one ear whenever she could."[3]

Bree, as mentioned above and noted by Conner, was calm and composed, keeping her cool regardless of the situation. She liked reading murder-mysteries and likely through the genre's influence, she became very observant, calculative, and intelligent. Like Conner, she also wrote short stories, though hers were slightly more macabre and feature zombies.[4]

"It dawned on Conner that what most people found frightening, Bree found intriguing. And knowing this about her both frightened and intrigued him."[5]

She had a habit of speaking her mind, regardless of whether or not it was appropriate, which occasionally baffled (but impressed) Conner. Throughout her journey in Europe Bree had been shown to be smart, savvy, resourceful, manipulative, a great actress and capable of getting out of sticky situations. She lied very well and improvised in a lot of tough situations, easily getting herself and Conner past obstacles.

Bree was mildly incredulous that Conner was a bad liar, expressing her disbelief of his capability to achieve greater things when something minor has stumped him. Bree was smart and had helped Conner in place of Alex many times, playing a similar role as Conner's "sister", keeping Conner alive and the quest progressive. Bree could speak a little German, hinting at her German ancestry.

Relationships[]

Bree mentioned having a grandmother who was born in Germany.[6] It is implied she is a descendant of Wilhelm Grimm. Bree is connected to the Grimm family tree via her paternal grandmother's cousin Cornelia Grimm. She snuck out to visit Cornelia and found out that she is part of a group called the Sisters Grimm.

She also mentioned that her grandmother lives in Atlantic City.[7] Since Anneliese passed away a few years ago, this is more likely referring to her maternal grandmother.

She had three younger sisters who, according to her, talked a lot about boy bands and fictitious relationships from books, and they constantly annoyed Bree.[8] She had a neutral relationship with her parents.

Bree admitted to having a crush on Conner before she left the Land of Stories.[9] She even admits she wishes he was with her to give her company on her second adventure in the 4th book.Bree promised to be his girlfriend, once she was no longer grounded. Years later, they get married at age twenty-eight and had three children - Elizabeth, Matthew, and Carrie Bailey.

Her relationship with Alex was quite neutral, It is also mentioned that she used to be her Social Studies partner.

It is shown that she cared for Emmerich deeply and that he was actually Conner's cousin, therefore meaning that Bree was related to him via Conner.

She used to have a friend called Stacey, whom she used as an excuse to go visit Cornelia Grimm in Connecticut, and she told her that she was staying with her even though they hadn't been friends since sixth grade.
