"We are the Fairy Council—if we lose our hope, all hope for the rest of the world is as good as gone."
Emerelda Stone to the other members of the Fairy Council[1]

The Fairy Council was an institution that enforced the law in the Fairy Kingdom, based in the Fairy Palace. It was originally formed by Lucy Goose, Brystal Evergreen, Emerelda Stone, Tangerina Turkin, Skylene Lavenders, and Xanthous Hayfield with Brystal as their leader.

The fairies in the council were some of the most powerful magical beings in the Land of Stories.

At one point, the Masked Man succeeded in recruiting a literary army, and they were turned to stone and temporarily incapacitated, but later freed by the tears of Medusa, the creature that was responsible for turning them to stone.[2]

Founding[]

The Fairy Council was established in 100 or 101 DA though if another dating system is used, it would be 650 or 651 DA. At the time of its founding, the council consisted of only Brystal Evergreen, Lucy Goose, Emerelda Stone, Xanthous Hayfield, Tangerina Turkin, and Skylene Lavenders, with Snowy Celeste Weatherberry as their mentor and teacher.

Mentored by Madame Weatherberry[]

At the start Brystal Evergreen had a thing called magiclexia. She was given a wand that helped her magic. She soon came top of class. Later on Madame Weatherberry disappeared and said she was visiting a sick friend, but she was fighting the snow Queen. Brystal Evergreen and the students went to fight the Snow Queen. Brystal Evergreen found Madame Weatherberry and she told Brystal the story of how the Snow Queen is her, consuming her. After a long fight Madame Weatherberry fled to the mountains and told Brystal Evergreen that when the northen lights are shining I am still inside and when there not the snow Queen has consumed me.

The Masked Man[]

The council became far less uptight about cases such as the incident involving Trix, although at one point they did grow weary of and angry at Alex Bailey for neglecting her Fairy Godmother duties and spending what they deemed an excessive amount of time searching for the Masked Man. After a battle that took place in the Witches' Brew, they agreed to give her an ultimatum, which she refused, leaving them no choice but to ungodmother her, later, she was presumably given back her position. When the Masked Man and his army arrived in the Land of Stories, the Fairy Palace was stormed and destroyed and the members of the Fairy Council were turned to stone,[3] however, they were eventually liberated by Charlie Charming with the tears of the same creature who originally turned them to stone—Medusa.[2]

They've always thought doing nothing is better than doing something that might be harmful or make them look bad. But that's politics for you.

Lucy Goose about the Fairy Council's views[5]

The Fairy Council enforced the law in the Fairy Kingdom. They were described as rather rigid, uncompromising and stern.

An example of their decision-making can be found when Alex and Conner met a young fairy (Trix) who was accused of using magic against another fairy.[6] Though the Fairy Council was sympathetic to Trix's appeal, they were about to banish her from the kingdom anyway ("rules are rules") until Conner intervened. He later accused the Council of focusing on the wrong things, because they didn't know the trolls and goblins were still enslaving people. They took his words to heart, and started focusing on real problems.[7]

They take an active role in fighting against the threats to the Land of Stories like the Enchantress and the Grande Armeé. They remained absent in later events since they had all been turned to stone by Medusa, but were later turned back by Froggy and participated in the battle in the Otherworld against the witches and Literary Villains.

Behind the Scenes[]

Trivia[]

  • At one point, after a stress-induced meltdown, Alex was 'ungodmothered' and no longer lead the council. The new leader of the council was Emerelda. It was unknown whether Alex regained her position after, or if someone else took her place, but she most likely did regain her position.

Quotes[]

  • (King Chance about the fairy council) "Where are those useless fairies?” he demanded. “And why haven’t they done something about this yet?!”
