"Every day without you is ruined. I won't spend any more of my life wondering if the woman I love is dead or alive or rotting in some prison. I thought I lost you back at the castle, and I refuse to ever feel that way again. I'm coming with you, even if that means that I have to chase you on foot."-Jack

Jack is a famed simultaneous thief and hero. He was raised in the Northern Kingdom, poor, by only a mother. He was known for trading away his cow for only a few magic beans in the hopes of finding the woman he loved, Goldilocks.[1] He eventually planted these so-called magic beans and climbed the large beanstalk that had subsequently grown from the planting of the beans. At the top, lived a giant in a vast castle situated on a cloud. Jack then stole several treasures from him including a magic harp and escaped down the stalk and cut it down as the giant attempted to climb down himself, leaving various farms with rich fertilizer from the Giant's corpse.

Biography[]

Early Life[]

Jack was born in a remote village in the Center Kingdom long before separating from the Northern Kingdom. When he was a child, he was in love with a girl named Goldilocks, but one day she disappeared and Jack, desperate to find her, went all over the kingdoms looking for her.

One day he was looking for her along with the family cow when he met the mysterious merchant, he offered him some magic beans in exchange for his cow, Jack believing that those beans would help him find Goldilocks, he accepted.

His Fairy tale[]

When Jack's mother found out about the exchange, she disgustedly took the beans and threw them into the field, the next day the beans grew into a huge stalk of beans which passed through the clouds.

Believing that Goldilocks was up there, Jack climbed the stem, started his famous fairy tale, later rescued Gloria the harp and killed the giant by making him fall to the ground. Although thanks to that his family managed to get out of poverty, he couldn't find the woman he loved.

One night Jack was reunited with Goldilocks, full of joy and tears he asked her why she had left, she told him everything that had happened when they were children and why she had disappeared, jack was surprised when she said that he had sent her a letter, because he had never sent her a letter, since he had been born poor and was illiterate, he could not read, much less write, so he was not responsible for sending that letter to Goldilocks.

Jack wanted to go with her but Goldilocks told him that he didn't want to ruin her life, so they agreed that from time to time she would send him a dove and that at nightfall they would meet in the forest of the Center Kingdom , jack something sad accepted the agreement.

The Wishing Spell[]

Jack met the Bailey twins while he was working cutting firewood, he told them that he would go to see the Queen Red Riding Hood in the afternoon and if they wanted they could accompany him, the twins accepted the offer and in the afternoon they went with him to the palace of Red Riding Hood.

As always, Little Red Riding Hood tried to seduce Jack so that he would agree to be her husband, but he rejected her as always, that day he received a dove which was the sign that Goldilocks was going to see him.

That same night Jack and Goldilocks met again, they told each other how much they missed each other and again Jack tried to convince her to let him go with her, but Goldilocks said no again since he didn't want him to live the life of a criminal like her. Goldilocks proceeds to quickly leave before the sun rises and the soldiers begin their rounds, leaving Jack heartbroken.

Jack fights alongside Froggy and the Northern Kingdom army in the battle against the Evil Queen. He is nearly killed by the Huntress, but saved by Goldilocks. When she is let out of prison by Queen Red Riding Hood, he joins her in exile.

Stopping the Enchantress[]

Jack and Goldilocks come to Queen Red's palace to offer their help against the Enchantress. Jack oversees the building of the airship, helps to find the Traveling Tradesman, climbs the beanstalk and visits the The Sea Witch with Froggy, Goldilocks and the twins, and fights against the Snow Queen and her polar bears.

Battling the Grande Armée[]

Jack and Goldilocks are wed in the forest and invite Alex to the ceremony. When the royals need protection from the Grande Armée, Alex asks them to be their guards. Jack finds out Goldilocks is pregnant when she tells him shortly before they are about to be executed. After they escape and the battle is won, Jack briefly assumes this means they will settle down, but Goldilocks disagrees. Alex sends them on a mission to find the escaped criminals from Pinocchio Prison.

Physical Appearance[]

He was young and tall with short hair and broad shoulders. He was very good-looking, but he wore a subdued expression.

— Jack's physical appearance[2]

Jack is a tall young man with an athletic build, he has tanned skin, short tousled brown hair, and large brown eyes. He wears a light green jacket and pants, with brown boots.

Personality[]

When Alex and Conner Bailey first meet Jack, he is curt with them and tries his best to ignore them. The Singing Harp in his house explains that he is missing the woman he loves and is the one who convinces him to bring them to Queen Red's palace. (She doesn't know who it is, but the twins later find out it's Goldilocks).

Jack is mentioned to have grown up poor and illiterate[3]; something which Goldilocks most likely didn't know, as she thought he had sent her a letter asking to meet her at the Three Bears' house.

In The Enchantress Returns, he oversees the building of the airship HMS Granny, and really appears to enjoy doing something constructive and "being a hero".[4]

When he and Goldilocks are pardoned for their crimes in The Enchantress Returns, rather than rejoice, they look very unhappy about it. When no one is looking, they steal Queen Red's necklace so they can be "on the run" together again.[5]

Jack proposes to Goldilocks while they are in a skirmish with soldiers from the Corner Kingdom and they are married in the Dwarf Forests, with Porridge as maid of honor and Froggy as best man.[6]

Relationships[]

Red Riding Hood[]

In The Wishing Spell, it becomes clear that Jack and Goldilocks are in love. Queen Red Riding Hood, however, is also in love with Jack. She calls him to her castle every week to propose to him. Jack brings her a self-made basket each time, but also turns down her proposals. At the end of The Wishing Spell, he gives up his home to live a life on the run with Goldilocks. In A Grimm Warning, Jack and Goldilocks are wed, and she reveals that she is pregnant.

Gloria[]

The Singing Harp is also quite fond of Jack (platonically) as Jack saved her from the giant.

Goldilocks[]

Jack always loved Goldilocks, he was willing to become a criminal to be with her, since she is his true love.

Quotes[]

(To Goldilocks) "Every day without you is ruined. I won't spend any more of my life wondering if the woman I love is dead or alive or rotting in some prison. I thought I lost you back at the castle, and I refuse to ever feel that way again. I'm coming with you, even if that means that I have to chase you on foot."

(To Goldilocks) "Then let me melt."
