"Face it, you're envious of my beauty! [...] You heard me! I have flawless skin, beautiful eyes, fantastic hair, a naturally high metabolism—but I'm also kind, considerate, giving, and a good friend! I'm just as gorgeous on the inside as I am on the outside! And no matter how many potions you drink, no matter how many enchantments you make, there will always be a selfish, greedy, hateful, and ugly goat inside you!"
— Red Riding Hood confronts Morina over her jealousy prior to Morina's demise[1]

Queen Red Riding Hood was the first and fourth elected ruler of the Center Kingdom, known as the Red Riding Hood Kingdom during her first reign. Red Riding Hood was first elected as monarch in her youth due to her personal proximity to the Citizen Riots Against Wolf Liberty (otherwise known as the C.R.A.W.L. Revolution), a movement which resulted in the sovereignty of a southern portion of the Northern Kingdom which was plagued by violent wolf attacks at the time.

Prior to her queenhood, Red had a regular upbringing and was known for her red cloak, and later on, for her encounter with the Big Bad Wolf, ensuing in her election as queen of the future Red Riding Hood Kingdom. As a child, Red was prone to jealousy and ruined the life of her fellow schoolmate, Goldilocks, to thwart Goldilocks' attempt at getting the boy she loved, Jack. This one-sided crush on Jack and her accompanying jealousy would prove to follow her throughout her life well into her adulthood, where she would regularly propose to Jack, only to be rejected.

Once elected queen, Red Riding Hood was rarely involved in the running of her state and lavishly spent on herself. In spite of this, her kingdom thrived under her once she established the kingdom's first-ever legislature and commissioned a wall that surrounded the kingdom's entirety. During her first reign, when she wasn't spending on luxuries, Red created laws, took part in queenly visits, and was generous in giving to her subjects despite her sometimes disregarding attitude.

The young queen first met Alexandra "Alex" and Conner Bailey, a set of twins who would largely influence her later life, on one of her weekly proposals to Jack. The siblings attempted to take a piece of bark from one of her baskets in her sizeable basket collection while pursuing items to initiate the Wishing Spell but accidentally set fire to her collection and, as a result, her palace. On that same quest for the Wishing Spell, Queen Red Riding Hood was kidnapped by Goldilocks in revenge for ruining her life and was almost murdered before being kidnapped again by the Huntress and brought to the Evil Queen at a Hidden Place to be eaten by Malumclaw, leader of the Big Bad Wolf Pack and son of the original Big Bad Wolf. Eventually, a cannon was shot at a Hidden Place where Red fell off a collapsing tower but was saved by Charlie "Froggy" Charming, a prince cursed as a frog. Malumclaw was killed and Red made amends with a jailed Goldilocks by freeing her to allow her to flee with Jack as outlaws.

Enamored by Charlie Charming's true form after he was turned back into a human by the Fairy Godmother, Red began a relationship with him and moved him into her palace. In the midst of the return of the Enchantress, Charlie was transformed back into a frog to act as a spy in the Dwarf Forests, much to Red's dismay.

As a result of Ezmia the Enchantress' return, Queen Red was summoned to an emergency Happily Ever After Assembly meeting where she hid Alex and Conner Bailey, who had returned to the Land of Stories in spite of their grandmother's orders, under her dress. During the assembly meeting, the twins' grandmother, the Fairy Godmother, was kidnapped by the Enchantress and the Enchantress vowed to take over the world. Once Red, the twins, and Charlie returned to her kingdom, they saw that the wall around it had vanished as a result of the Enchantress and they make a plan to assemble the Wand of Wonderment to defeat her by building an airship that would traverse the Land of Stories. Red accompanied the twins, Goldilocks, Jack, and Charlie across the kingdoms before being captured by the Enchantress along with her fellow monarchs where she was asked to surrender her kingdom but initially refused until her subjects are threatened. After Ezmia is defeated by Alex, Red attends a banquet hosted by King Chance Charming and Queen Cinderella where she pardons Goldilocks and Jack, along with the other monarchs, for their crimes against the kingdoms.

Biography[]

Early Life[]

Unlike Cinderella, I did not let my unfortunate origins affect my sanity—you'll never see me talking to mice!

— Red Riding Hood, Queen Red Riding Hood's Guide to Royalty
Little Red Riding Hood - QRRHGTR

Red Riding Hood as a child, during her coronation

Little Red Red Riding Hood, as she was known in her childhood, was born into humble beginnings to "simple farmers", who raised her in a small village on the outskirts of the wood in the southern Northern Kingdom.[2]

In her biography and guide to royalty, Red Riding Hood went onto claim her parents "mistreated" her due to the fact that she never seemed to get her way, which she claimed to be proven by the fact that she attended school and did chores as any other child her age would have, despite not wanting to. In addition to the claim of mistreatment by her parents, Red claimed that she was restricted by things such as rules and curfews and was ignored whenever she protested such things.

Red's parents refused to conceive once more, saying "You're enough." whenever she would plead for them to do so. Despite her "unfortunate origins," Red Riding Hood continued to persevere through her undemanding labor with her only comfort being her grandmother who would hardly reply with "no", unlike her parents.

In her youth, Red also formed a crush on Jack on the very first day of school, but, even at an early age, Jack never reciprocated feelings towards her, even going as far as describing her as "never any fun," because of her tendency to let him win every game they played.[3] Meanwhile, Goldilocks referred to her as "a real snob," during their school days,[4] despite Red referring to Goldilocks and her as "such good friends," as children, prior to Goldilocks becoming a fugitive.[5] The comment made by Jack was overhead by Red and led her to act out of jealousy and seek revenge on Goldilocks.

Forging a Letter[]

Red forges letter

Spurred by jealousy and heartbreak, Red writes a letter to Goldilocks in Jack's name

Due to the unreciprocated feelings from her crush, Jack, because of his feelings for another girl, Goldilocks, Little Red, spurred by jealousy, plotted a scheme against Goldilocks. The scheme involved Red forging a letter in Jack's name containing a location to meet up, and leaving the letter outside Goldilocks' doorstep.[6][7] The location mentioned in the letter was a tree house across from Black Sheep Creek.[7] Unbeknownst to Goldilocks, the tree house belonged to a family of three bears who were off for a stroll at the time.[8]

Under the guise that Jack would be at the tree house, Goldilocks ended up breaking and entering into the home of the bears, accidentally vandalizing the property and consuming the porridge left out by the bears. While waiting for Jack's supposed arrival, Goldilocks took a nap that led to her eventual discovery by the bear family. Awoken by the bears, Goldilocks fled from their home as they attempted to viciously attack her in alleged self-defense.[9][8]

Once Goldilocks arrived home, a sheriff was summoned due to being informed by the family of bears of the breaking and entering that took place in their residence. In the midst of being arrested for trespass and vandalism, Goldilocks fled once more, beginning her long and renowned career as a criminal, all due to the forged letter written by Red.[10] Later in life, Red showed remorse for her cruel actions several times, including in voting against the attempted annexation of the Dwarf Forests by the Charming brothers during the Annual Happily Ever After Summit[11] and freeing Goldilocks from the Northern Palace dungeon.[12]

Delivering Treats[]

As a youth, Red would regularly deliver baked goods to her grandmother whenever the elderly woman had fell ill throughout the course of the C.R.A.W.L. Revolution. During the common trips to her grandmother's house, Red was known to have eaten the majority of the treats originally intended for her bedridden grandmother to the point that Red eventually gained quite a bit of weight, so much so that her grandmother had to sew her new clothes every week. Her grandmother had also subsequently sewed the red cloak that Red was famed for, as it was the only thing that fit her for more than a week.[13] Red Riding Hood became well known throughout her village for her scarlet cloak.[2]

Unbeknownst to her, the wolf had darted through the trees beside the path and arrived at her granny's house before her. Thanks to Little Red's directions, the wolf was going to enjoy two meals today!

— The moments leading up to an infamous attempt on Red Riding Hood's and her grandmother's lives[14]
Little Red Riding Hood

Red's infamous encounter with the Big Bad Wolf

Some time after earning popularity for her cloak, Red was sent out on yet another trip to her grandmother's house after her mother received a letter from Red's grandmother concerning her poor state at the time. Red began her short journey by picking flowers for a bouquet to cheer her ill grandmother up, however, she had wasted the flowers to make decorative jewelry. Once more, Red strayed off the path to pick a few berries for her granny from a bush brimming with them, although, she ended up eating every single berry. On Little Red's third stop, she made history when she encountered the Big Bad Wolf. Unaware of the wolf's motives, Red informed the wolf of her own motives and her granny's whereabouts.[15]

RRH & BBW - ATOCFT

Little Red Riding Hood, oblivious towards the Big Bad Wolf's disguise

The Big Bad Wolf rushed through the woods, followed Red's direction and made sure he arrived at her granny's house first. The wolf broke into the home of the housebound grandmother and rapidly swallowed her whole, disguising himself as Red's grandmother soon after.[16]

Once Red Riding Hood arrived at her grandmother's house, she commented on her grandmother's unusual appearance including her ears, nose, and teeth, the latter of which led to her presumed grandmother exposing herself as the Big Bad Wolf to Red Riding Hood. Subsequently, the wolf ate her up whole just as he had with her grandmother. Red reunited with her grandmother in the wolf's stomach and the two waited to be liberated from the space for two days, working on their gambling skills in the meantime.[17]

As the days passed, Red's parents grew concerned and sought the help of a local hunter and axe man to investigate.[18] Due to the sheer size of Red Riding Hood and her grandmother combined, the Big Bad Wolf was unable to digest them and fell into a food coma,[18] allowing for the hunter to rush into the home, and slay the overgrown wolf, releasing Red and her grandmother in the process. Red Riding Hood had learned her lesson concerning strangers and immediately rushed home, without detours of any sort.[17]

Later on in life, Red Riding Hood would defend the way she acted in her two encounters with the Big Bad Wolf by chalking it up to bad parenting and claiming that her grandmother had dressed up in many "weird" outfits, as a passionate protestor during the C.R.A.W.L. Revolution protests.

Early Years as Queen (Golden Age)[]

Appointed as Queen[]

Main article: First election of the Red Riding Hood Kingdom
I, fabulous Little Red Riding Hood, solemnly swear to govern this kingdom, to serve its people, and to guide it to prosperity, so help me God.

— Little Red Riding Hood as she volunteered for the position of queen of the newly-created kingdom[19]

Once Red Riding Hood and her grandmother had been saved from the Big Bad Wolf's stomach, the C.R.A.W.L. Revolution had been put to an end and the farming villages of the southern north had been granted sovereignty from the Northern Kingdom.[18] Word quickly spread in the newly-formed kingdom of Red Riding Hood's and her grandmother's encounters with the Big Bad Wolf and the two were called upon by the C.R.A.W.L. Committee, who offered the position of queen to Red Riding Hood's grandmother who, in turn, rejected the offer, claiming she was not up to it.[18] The Committee then considered Billy Bopkins, but turned down the idea on the basis of him being a goat.[18] Red's grandmother suggested a young individual for the role, to which the Committee focused their attention on Red as she desperately asked them to consider her, and unwarrantedly pledged that she would govern the kingdom to the best of her ability.[20]

The C.R.A.W.L. Committee put the matter to a vote and simultaneously agreed on the matter as there was no other suitable person for the role, thus dubbing Red, Her Royal Majesty, Queen Red Riding Hood.[21] The queen would later claim that "the world [had] been a better place ever since." in the chapter of her guide to royalty dedicated to her early life and election as queen.[21]

First Acts as Queen[]

Following Red Riding Hood's election as queen, Red Riding Hood's grandmother asked what the kingdom would be known as, to which the C.R.A.W.L. Committee first suggested the name to be the In-Between Kingdom, due to the kingdom's geographical location in the Land of Stories, and possibly drawing off of the name of the historic territory known as the In-Between. The idea was turned down, and a shepherdess member of the Committee proposed the name to be the C.R.A.W.L. Kingdom, basing it off of the long revolutionary movement and organization that led to the creation of the kingdom, however, Red Riding Hood denounced the suggestion and christened the kingdom the Red Riding Hood Kingdom, assuming it would make all the other kingdoms envious and awestruck of her own kingdom.

The next few hours of her queenhood were "highly efficient," according to Red Riding Hood in her biography. She established her very own House of Progress, although it may have had a different name and base of operations upon its creation,[22] made up of numerous trusted advisors, including the third Little Pig, Sir BaaBaa Blacksheep, Lady Muffet, Sir Jack Horner, the Honorable Three Blind Mice, the Little Old Woman, and Red Riding Hood's grandmother.

Once Red formed her house of representatives, her next act as queen was to create a wall surrounding the Red Riding Hood Kingdom, on the recommendation of her grandmother, to protect the citizens from the constant wolf attacks that raged in their kingdom and to keep trouble within her kingdom rather than in neighboring lands.[23] The wall would become a defining trait of the kingdom and became a symbol of the kingdom's struggle throughout their history.

Coronation and Parents' Reaction[]

Main article: Coronation of Red Riding Hood

As the Red Riding Hood Kingdom was still new and had little to no infrastructure, Queen Red Riding Hood was officially crowned in an old barn rather than a grand venue, using a bucket as a crown, a dog blanket as a robe, and numerous farm animals living in the barn as her crowd of admirers.[24] She claimed that the experience would have belittled others but it, instead, influenced her most essential act as queen which was "building the home and wardrobe [she] deserved," claiming that the best builders and designers of the kingdom constructed her castle and created her extravagant clothing.[24]

Arriving in a golden carriage and covered in jewelry, Red Riding Hood returned to her childhood home and explained to her parents that she had been elected queen, which only served to confuse her mother and father who both believed that she was much too young to be a queen and that it was a ruse on Red's part.[25] In frustration and heartbreak, Red left the home, announcing to the two that they would never put her down again, and subsequently, estranged them, only seeing them a select few amount of times a year from that point forward.[25]

Well, I object! Yes, the majority of the people and creatures living in the Dwarf Forests are there because they broke the law. But sometimes the law is flawed! I should know. I create the law in my kingdom. There are many innocent people who only live in the forest because of bad luck! They don't deserve to lose their homes or their lives! What about them?

— Queen Red's objection to the cleansing of the Dwarf Forests[26]
Red enters the summit

Red Riding Hood joins the assembly for the Annual Happily Ever After Summit

Initially not wanting to attend the assembly but eventually opting to go, Queen Red Riding Hood was the very last monarch to join the summit, excluding Queen Snow White and Queen Beauty II who were both missing from attendance which Red briefly pointed out. The assembly was then informed that they would be represented by their respective consorts, King Chandler Charming and King Chase Charming, in a hidden scheme to annex the Dwarf Forests.

Emerelda Stone started off the summit by briefly explaining that the Fairy Godmother would not be in attendance due to her son's death. Following Emerelda's announcement, Xanthous Hayfield brang attention to the first matter of the day which revolved around the troll and goblins of the Troll and Goblin Territory petitioning to leave their territory. The next matter was explained by Skylene Lavenders and detailed the Mer people of Mermaid Bay desiring official recognition of their home as a state, however, their request was withdrawn prior to the meeting which Lavenders chalked up to the "wishy-washy" nature of the Mer people. The third topic was jointly explained by Rosette Meadows and Tangerina Turkin who reveal that a dragon skeleton was located by a group of dwarfs in a mine located in the Elf Empire, resulting in both populations claiming the skeleton. Turkin added that they offered a solution but were turned down by both groups.

Red votes no

Red passionately votes against King Chance's plan

The Fairy Council then proceeded to open up the floor to any other issues of the day, to which King Chance Charming of the Charming Kingdom announced his intentions to clear the Dwarf Forests of its criminal inhabitants and expand the Charming Kingdom borders once the cleanse was complete. Queen Red Riding Hood passionately exclaimed against the cleansing, in guilt of what she did to Goldilocks as a child, claiming that not all inhabitants of the forests were there rightfully or unlawfully. The Fairy Council shared Red's views and voted against the act, however, the three Charming Brothers along with Queen Rapunzel voted for the clearing of the territory.

Red and Froggy's wedding day had arrived and Red was freaking out. As she was about to lose it over her dress, Alex turned up and improved it with magic. Just before Red and Froggy were wed, Morina arrived and threatened to harm Red unless Froggy came with her. He saw no other way but to do so, leaving Red at the altar. When Alex and Conner announced their plan to travel after the Masked Man, Red decided to join them to distract herself from her heartbreak.

Beyond the Kingdoms[]

She came along to Oz and Neverland, where the others made her stay with the Lost Boys to guard the book the others traveled into. She protested against this arrangement at first, but then found life at Neverland with her "adopted" children rather pleasant.

Temporary Motherhood[]

When she told them her story, they questioned her and Froggy's love, because she hadn't tried to find him. This roused Red into action, and she and the Lost Boys traveled back to the Land of Stories and found Froggy. They were unable to help him as he was trapped in a magic mirror, and Red was crushed with heart ache.

Conner's characters were sneaked into Saint Andrews Children's Hospital, where Bob and Charlotte worked, as their house was getting too crowded. Red was very offended that there was a painting in the hospital based off her fairytale but they painted her as a brunette. Red mistaked Auburn Sally as a character Conner based on her, but in fact, Auburn Sally was based on Goldilocks and Charlotte. Some people discovered the characters and Charlotte had to pretend they were performers. Red played Trollbella in a play they put on for the patients of the hospital.

Physical Appearance[]

Red 300px

A portrait of Queen Red

She was showing too much skin, wearing too much makeup, and dressed too well for the middle of the day.

— Queen Red Riding Hood from the point of view of the Bailey twins[27]

Red was described as a very beautiful young woman with bright blue eyes and blonde hair. She paid a lot of attention to her appearance, wearing big gowns, too much makeup and expensive jewelry. She was very dedicated to looking her best throughout the day.

Red claimed she was an "emotional eater" as a child[13]. Her grandmother reminisced about her always turning up at her house with empty baskets, having eaten all the snacks inside by herself; growing larger especially fast as a result, and she had to make her new clothes so often that she decided to make her the red cloak she was famous for. Being a little overweight and wearing a brightly colored hood made her an easy and tasty target for the Big Bad Wolf. She had been afraid of wolves ever since, until she adopted Clawdius, whom she originally thought was a puppy, but kept him anyway after finding out that he was actually a wolf pup. She later accepted him and took him in, and trained him to behave well.[28]

Personality[]

She was elected to be queen after the C.R.A.W.L. Revolution at a very young age, though she later admitted that her only competitors were the Third Little Pig and Billy Bopkins. The Third Little Pig declined the function and Billy Bopkins was only considered but ultimately Red was chosen.[29]

She has a weird basket obsession and hoarded them in a room in her castle. Red was described as a self-obsessed young woman (She even named a kingdom after herself). She often displayed jealousy and had very little insight. She was used to luxury life and very often seemed ignorant to other people's struggles. This changed as Red grew as a queen and she started to pay more attention, shouldering more responsibility in ruling her kingdom, such as founding the House of Progress to make ruling fairer. Unfortunately, her citizens still found this unsatisfying and later chose Little Bo Peep to rule them instead.

Red never failed to be sarcastic. A prime example was when she and Froggy chased after Little Bo Peep, and Red joked that Little Bo had 'lost her sheep'. Red's jealousy often lead to rude comments from her; she was antagonistic towards people who challenged her authority and could nurse a very long grudge. She was initially disliked by the twins, but eventually, they learned that she was somewhat deserving of her title as queen. Alex even came to view her as family; the twins became her friends as she helped them and they helped her. Red could be humorous in her own right, especially with the comments she made. She was also shown to be perceptive in the most humorous ways, for instance on her wedding day she planned for the organ to be actually a hidden room so Alex could hide in it and watch the wedding procedure, commenting that "One of us is always in trouble or running from something or someone. It's just a given in our group. So I planned for it."

Though she had a materialistic attitude, Red was brave enough to venture forth in an attempt to save the world from Ezmia. Knowing that her surrendering her kingdom to Ezmia would mean victory for The Enchantress, Red refused to hand over her kingdom, explaining that unlike the other monarchs present, she was an elected Queen and thus her kingdom belonged to each and everyone of her citizens, in hopes of stalling Ezmia's plans. Ultimately, she chose to give up her kingdom to Ezmia when the Evil Enchantress threatened to kill every single one of her citizens. It could be seen that despite everything and how she prioritized herself at all times, she loved her kingdom and its people very much. Red is devastated when her citizens did not re-elect her — although her distress could also be attributed to her losing her wealth, home and title. Despite not being re-elected, Red was the one who demanded to be taught how to fight, willing to fight by her people's side instead of dying in hiding, inspiring the other queens present to learn how to fight as well.

Froggy was the only one who viewed her arrogance and self-importance as her strength of character instead of bad traits. His unfailing devotion eventually lead her to choose him over Jack. However, Red also seemed to judge on appearance, for example when she refused to hold Froggy's hand when he was a frog, and was shocked when he chose his frog form as a permanent one, though the shock was due to the combination of losing her throne and the Fairytale world being in danger again. When Froggy was elected as the new king of the Bo Peep Republic, she enthusiastically and spontaneously proposed to him, showing that she wasn't afraid to take charge of their relationship—and that she really wanted her wealth and title as queen back.

Red was quite the feminist, an example being when she strongly advised Alex to not let Rook lead her so easily, insisting that Alex must take charge on their date. She was shown to be less self-absorbed and even a deep thinker, remarking on how when she was fourteen, she ruined the lives of Jack and Goldilocks by trying to be with the boy she loved, telling Alex that there was a thin line between love and insanity. She also told Alex that "The first cut is always the deepest, but not every cut leaves a scar. If you spend your whole life worrying about getting hurt, then you aren't really living. You don't want to shield yourself so much from the bad stuff that nothing good gets to you, either."

Despite all her flaws, Red was a loyal and steadfast friend. She was sympathetic and emotional, crying when Little Bo Peep was killed, showing that she was not as hateful as she seemed, despite her history with Bo Peep. When she saw herself in the Mirror of Truth, her reflection was the same as it would be in a normal mirror, symbolizing that she had nothing to hide.[30]

She learned a valuable lesson when the Lost Boys asked her why she expected other people to help her save Charlie (rather than save him herself) from Morina, the evil witch who cast a spell on Charlie. This gave her the courage to try and find him, and taught her that rather than begging the Fairy Council and monarchs present at her wedding day, she should have gone after Charlie herself. This also showed that ultimately, despite her materialism, she loved Charlie very much.

Relationships[]

Charlie Charming[]

To my beloved Charlie: Little girls are told if they kiss a frog, they may get a prince. I kissed a prince and wound up with a frog. Then again, I've never been good with instructions. But I wouldn't have it any other way. I love you.

— Dedication of Queen Red Riding Hood's Guide to Royalty

After the fighting the Evil Queen she still seemed to carry a tiny bit for Jack.[31] When she thought Froggy and Jack were about to die she chose Froggy to hold on to.[32] She told Froggy that she chose him and when the Enchantress was defeated they shared a kiss. She later proposed to Froggy when she found out he was the new elected king of her former kingdom, exclaiming she would be queen again if they married.[33]

They were set to be married, but the wedding was interrupted by Morina, who forced Froggy to come away with her, leaving Red heartbroken. When Red found him, he had been captured inside a magic mirror and told her the spell was permanent.

She wrote how her relationship with Froggy nearly turned into a scandal in her kingdom. She addressed the rumor before it could escalate, reminding her subjects that "love is love, regardless of age, color, gender and yes, species", and was very proud of herself for being such an inspiration to everyone.[34]

I found true happiness with someone who was the opposite of what I was looking for. He's not the definition of perfection, but he is perfect to me.

— Red Riding Hood about her husband, Charlie Charming, in her biography and guide to royalty, Queen Red Riding Hood's Guide to Royalty[35]

Lost Boys[]

Main article: Lost Boys

Red Riding Hood had six sons, the Lost Boys, who she and Froggy adopted, she met the Lost Boys when her, the twins, Mother Goose, and the Tin Woodman traveled to Neverland and Red was assigned to take care of the Lost Boys.

Red's Grandmother[]

As queen, her grandmother helped her and did most of the decision-making until her grandmother retired and Red took over ruling the kingdom herself, aided by Froggy. Red was later deposed and replaced by Little Bo Peep and Red declared Bo her new nemesis.[36] She later got her throne back when Froggy was captured by Morina.

Clawdius[]

Main article: Clawdius

Red found an abandoned wolf cub, thinking it was a puppy, adopted it and called him Clawdius. When finding out he was a wolf, she initially rejected him, but later decided to let go of her distrust of wolves and tried to raise him as a "friendly pet".[37]

Bailey Twins[]

Main articles: Alexandra Bailey and Conner Bailey

Her other friends were the Bailey twins. In the past Red Riding Hood seemed to feel that Alex and Conner were nothing but trouble and she had been forcefully coerced into helping them—something which she was extremely angry about, to have her authority challenged so in her own castle. She had warmed to them and offered Alex dating advice and loaned her some clothes from her wardrobe, and it was implied that they visited each other every now and then. Alex viewed her as the closest thing she had to an older sister. Alex made her dress for her wedding to Froggy using magic.[38]

Goldilocks[]

Main article: Goldilocks

She and Goldilocks used to be friends. When they were both younger, Red wrote her a letter pretending to be Jack, luring her to the house of three dangerous bears in hopes of scaring her away from Jack's attentions. This almost got Goldilocks killed.[6] Red eventually apologized, which Goldilocks grudgingly accepted, though not before slapping her in the face. They later worked together to help the twins, but still clearly bore each other ill will.

They later reconciled and Red attended Goldilocks' wedding. Red was not very pleased Goldie stole one of her dresses to get married in but as she didn't make a huge fuss about it, it can be gleaned she was secretly happy Goldilocks was getting married in that dress.[39] Later, Red asked Goldie to give her and the other queens fighting lessons because she wanted to defend her (former) kingdom.[40] They formed a sort of friendship.

We made up once she gave me back the diamond necklace she stole from me. She thought it was just a joke, I thought it was an act punishable by death, blah blah blah...but we reconciled and here I am.[41]

Red asked Goldilocks to be her matron of honor at her wedding. Goldilocks knew her well enough to recognize the pose she struck (a finger to her lips) when she was about to ask for a favor. Goldilocks was the first to come and help Red when Froggy left her, suggesting that she cared about Red more than she let on.[42]

Jack[]

Main article: Jack

She was in love with Jack and 'proposed' to him every week.[43] However she later got fond of Froggy and they became friends.

Parents[]

Main articles: Red Riding Hood's mother and Red Riding Hood's father

Red Riding Hood was born as a normal village girl. Not much was known about her parents. Red's mother was mentioned to have sent her over to her granny‘s house with a basket. She claimed that her parents mistreated her and didn't believe she was really elected queen at first. As a grown woman, she wrote that she saw her parents "practically never" except on the third Sunday of every month when they shared an awkward dinner.[44]

Others[]

Red had an ambivalent attitude towards the other queens of the Land of Stories. When she told the Lost Boys their stories, she altered the endings of each fairy tale and let them all die tragic and fictional deaths.[45]

Red had a handmaiden, who had a rather suspicious attitude towards Alex and Conner.

Behind the Scenes[]

Quotes[]

"Forgive me, I don't mean to be rude," [...]"It's just every time I see you two I'm heartbroken, kidnapped, or homeless."[46]

"However challenging the current times may be, I have called you all here to encourage your strength and bravery-we have faced great threats in the past and have always overcome them together as a kingdom! And as I look around at your faces I can see that courage in your eyes! The Enchantress may have taken our wall, but she will never take away our spirit!".[47]

"If you all will please excuse me," [...] "I think I'm going to lie down for a minute. My life has suddenly become a Shakeyfruit play."[48]

"Thank you for joining me today, Hoodians! I wish you all peace and poverty!" -"Prosperity, my dear. Prosperity!" Froggy corrected her.[49]

"Hoods have always suited me so well, and motherhood is no exception."[50]

"Once you start looking down on people it's hard to look at them any other way again."[51]

"There's a thin line between 'in love' and 'insane'- and I crossed it many times. But looking back, had I not experienced all those awful things I would never have met Charlie, so in the long run it was all worth it."[52]

"Men are natural-born monarchs and it's our job as women to rid them of that animalistic trait. If you let him lead the first walk, soon he'll be leading the whole relationship."[53]

[Upon being forced to share a carriage with Little Bo Peep] "Will someone please put me back inside the wolf's stomach?"[54]

"I refuse to sit back and watch this Grand Armée destroy everything we love so much. If I die, I don't want to die in a cozy carriage or throne room, I want to die fighting alongside our people."[55]

"Clawdius! Get off the heir of magic right now!"[56]

"We're like sisters- the kind of sisters who have almost killed each other at one point in time."[57]

"Charlie, I can't think of a better place to get married than on the ashes of your ex-girlfriend," she said. "Mother Goose, will you do the honors?"

"I found true happiness with someone who was the opposite of what I was looking for. He's not the definition of perfection, but he is perfect to me."

(When they went into Bree's story) "Conner, were you in a bad mood when you wrote this story?"

"Well, it's important to dress your best when the world is at it's worst...to raise morale."

(About boys) "The first cut is always the deepest, but not every cut leaves a scar."

"If you spend your life worrying about getting hurt, than you aren't really living. You don't want to shield yourself from the bad stuff that nothing good gets to you either. Meeting up with a cute boy who likes you isn't going to hurt you."
