"It's a very dangerous place. It's the only designated area of land without a ruler or a government; it's a kingdom where everyone is their own king. It used to be populated by dwarfs who worked in the mines, but now it's full of criminals and fugitives mostly. It's a place where people go when they don't want to be found."[1]

Characteristics[]

The Dwarf Forests was a dangerous area, hideaway for criminals and fugitives. It lied in the west between the Elf Empire and the Corner Kingdom. According to King Chance Charming the forests were over fifty million acres of land and home to thousands of "undesirables."

History[]

The Dragon Age[]

All of the Land of Stories was terrorized by dragons and the Dwarf Forests was made up of the Western Kingdom, The Dwarf Territory, and The Elf Territory at the time.

The Age of Magic[]

The Happily Ever After Assembly was founded and the kingdoms were divided. The Dwarf Forests were apparently not claimed by any king or queen and were protected by the Happily Ever After Assembly.

The Golden Age[]

In 2009, Alex and Conner entered the Land of Stories by falling through a portal into the Dwarf Forests. They met Froggy, who gave them a travel journal written by the twins' father and encouraged them to try and gather the items to use the Wishing Spell. The twins tried to get out of the dangerous forests but ran into the Gingerbread House WitchThe Big Bad Wolf Pack, and Goldilocks first. They later returned to the Dwarf Forests to visit the Dwarf Mines in order to acquire gems from Snow White's coffin.

A year later in early 2010, Alex and Conner spied on a gathering of outlawed talking animals who were planning to join the Enchantress. They encountered Prince Charlie (Froggy), who was a frog again in order to spy on the outlaws undercover. They again returned to the Dwarf Forests, when the Seven Dwarfs buried their eighth brother, Rumpelstiltskin.

Alex revisited the Dwarf Forests by invitation of Jack and Goldilocks, who were getting married in a small clearing in the woods. When Alex, Conner, and Lester were wounded during the attack on the Elf Empire, they were found by Hagetta and brought back to her cottage in the forest to be healed.

Approximately five months later, at their monthly meeting in Dead Man's Creek, the witches discuss the twenty-four missing children in two kingdoms. They're interrupted by the Masked Man along with the remaining soldiers of the Grande Armée who tried convincing the witches to join them, they were then interrupted by Goldilocks, Jack, Queen Red Riding Hood, the Third Little Pig, Froggy, Alex, and Conner who tried capturing the Masked Man though they only succeeded in catching the soldiers. A while after, Rook and Cornelius followed the Masked Man and found him living in a cave with a collection of his books. They watched him use the Portal Potion to venture in said books to recruit his army of literary villains.

Alex, Conner, and their friends hid in the forest to regroup and plan their counter-attack against the Masked Man. When the royals were rescued, they were taken to the Dwarf Forests, specifically the Dwarf Mines.
