“And thank God he did, because giants have terrible taste in music! You wouldn’t believe the numbers he used to force me to perform for him! All the lyrics were about eating sheep and stepping on villagers!-Gloria

The Singing Harp was an enchanted item (with human qualities); a possession of the giant that got stolen by Jack.

Harper or Gloria was saved from the giant by Jack and lived in his house afterwards.

Biography[]

Before the events of the Saga[]

Love triangle and imposed curse[]

Gloria was a human who fell in love with a musician, the musician began to court her despite already being in a relationship with the fairy Ezmia, but Gloria did not give it importance thinking that a fairy would not be able to hurt her.

But Ezmia, furious and destroyed by the Musician's betrayal, decided to take revenge and cursed Gloria to get back at him by transforming her into a golden harp so that the musician could use it, just as he used her.

Life as Harper[]

Not wanting to be related to Ezmia, Gloria took the alias of Harper and because being a magical instrument caused her to stop aging, she dedicated herself for centuries to performing for kings and nobles as a magic harp, gaining much popularity. At some point a giant kidnapped her and took her to his kingdom in the clouds, for other centuries Harper entertained the giant and he began to decorate his home with thousands of images and sculptures of her since he was fascinated with her music.

Centuries later, a boy named Jack came to the giant's castle looking for the girl he loved but did not find her. Harper found him and begged him to get her out of there since that giant was driving her crazy. Jack, taking pity on her, carried her on her back. He tried to escape with her in the most stealthy way possible, but the moment the giant discovered that Harper was gone, he started looking for her like crazy.

The giant finally saw Jack fleeing with the harp on his back and began chasing him like crazy throughout the castle and the cloud kingdom. Jack finally managed to get out of the cloud kingdom and cut down the stalk causing the giant to fall from the sky and die from the impact. After Jack was hailed as a hero, his family managed to get out of poverty, building a large mansion to which Jack, his mother and Harper moved. Since then, Harper lived in that mansion with Jack, singing happily and listening to town gossip.

Evil Queen's Campaign (2009)[]

Encounter with the Bailey Twins[]

When the Twins arrived at the Red Cloak Kingdom, they came across the mansion where Jack lived and heard Harper singing. She told them about how Jack rescued her from the giant and how after the giant's death her corpse was used as fertilizer for Bo Peep's farms and was quite useful.

Return of the Enchantress (2010)[]

Watching the Beanstalk[]

When Jack returns to his old house Harper is happy to see him, Jack asks him for a favor and Harper begins to ask him what he needed from her. She asked if he needed her to sing at a party or a wedding or a funeral but Jack told her that he wants her to watch the beanstalk grow which made Harper very upset. Jack promised Harper that if she did him that favor he would take her to live in Red Riding Hood's castle where she would act as the main star. Harper, although still somewhat upset, accepted the deal and dedicated herself to practicing for when she moved to Red's castle.

Appearance[]

"Standing behind the open window was a golden woman. She happily sang a soprano ballad as loudly as she could. A set of strings played along with her, but the twins couldn't see where there music was coming from. [...] She turned to face the twins as she sang the final note, and they noticed a set of strings connected to her back. The strings played magically along to her voice. She was a magic harp."[1]

Gloria was a woman made of gold who had strings and a large bow on her back, which was where her musical strings were located. Gloria could not move except for her hands.

Personality[]

Harper had a soprano voice and loved to sing. She told Alex and Conner she was very grateful that Jack rescued her, because the giant would make her sing awful songs about "eating sheep and stepping on villagers". She was very chatty and clearly did not get visitors very often.[2]

It was revealed that she was the former lover of the Musician and was changed into an instrument by Ezmia, who was jealous of her.[3] Her real name was Gloria.[4]

After the Enchantress visited her to gloat and to taunt her, she realized Ezmia needed to be stopped and that the only way was to sacrifice herself and become a part of the Wand of Wonderment.[5]

She later appeared as a ghost to warn the twins of coming danger.[6]

Relationships[]

She was the former lover of the Musician also called The Pied Piper.

“Oh the day is here and so am I, To wistfully dream of birds that fly, Soon I will be moved far far away, And Queen Red Riding Hood’s castle is where I shall—AAAAAAH!”-Gloria

“Oh, the day is here, and so am I, To wistfully dream of birds that fly. If I had legs, I’d see the world and travel away, But I’m only a harp, and this window is where I shall stay.”-Gloria

“And thank God he did, because giants have terrible taste in music! You wouldn’t believe the numbers he used to force me to perform for him! All the lyrics were about eating sheep and stepping on villagers!-Gloria

“You’re welcome!” [...] “Come back and visit me… please!”-Gloria

“Don’t let them take me away!” [...] “They’re going to melt me and forge me into nose rings!”-Gloria

“By acquired he means kidnapped!”-Gloria

“That tickles! Oooo-hoo! Be gentle; it’s been a while!”-Gloria

“No, Ezmia, you’ll never be satisfied,” [...] “You think by robbing other people of their bliss you’ll find your own, but it doesn’t work that way. You’ll be searching for happiness your entire life but will never find it because you wouldn’t know what happiness was even if it scratched you in the face.”-Gloria

''Oh Jack, my Jack, the Jack is back, you almost gave this harp a heart attack, But now I no longer need to be concerned, For Jack, my Jack, the Jack has finally returned.''-Gloria
